The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
Folks who would have been deemed less than worthy in times past, are now firmly in charge and determining the fate of humanity.
And given their visceral hatred of the system, they are falling over themselves to dismantle everything, piece by piece.
But should we blame these misfits and renegades?
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was never fit for purpose, deliberately targeting marginalized communities and also playing their part in not only assassinating their prominent voices, but also ensuring that a leadership class would never emerge from the inner cities of Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
The United States Agency for International Development might have had lofty ambitions to elevate millions in disparate parts of the world from poverty and desolation, but it soon became the means through which billions of dollars was funneled by the Central Intelligence Agency to implement coups, wars and regime change in nations of the global south.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was meant to ensure that ruinous destructive wars and genocide never happened again, instead it became a tool of undermining the Russian strongman who had aspirations of becoming King of Europe.
But these aren’t the only agencies in Trump’s crosshairs: The Center For Disease Prevention and Control, Homeland Security, Departments of Health, Veteran Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, Environment Protection Agency and countless others are at risk of being downsized and broken up altogether.
Even though our misfit friends haven’t necessarily been at the receiving end of these agencies,(despite their arguments to the contrary) they are taking the axe to them, all the same.
To their devoted supporters, it’s the right thing to do, given the point to which these ‘woke organizations’ have left them on the fringes of mainstream society.
And if you’re not familiar with the workings of these departments and agencies, as Michael Lewis detailed in his 2021 book titled Premonition, you would be forgiven for thinking that Trump’s decisions are perfectly justified.
But without these agencies and departments, tens of millions of Americans will lose billions of dollars in assets from hurricanes, pandemics and unforeseen extreme events, which are always beneficial to the wealthiest 1% in society.
That said, it doesn’t matter, because the age of the absurd is fully upon us and this is the new normal.
And at times like these, we are expected to fully take leave of our senses and get to grips with the complete destruction of society as we know it.
The United States of America isn’t governed by the three branches of government acting in concert, but by executive action and the world's wealthiest man firing off instructions regarding performance appraisal and contracts on Twitter.
White America, for the better part of its history, has acted against its own interests, in siding with the oligarchs, segregationists, xenophobes and nationalists disguised as agents of Christ.
In giving Trump a second term, they have not only exceeded themselves in embracing the absurd, but also set their country on the course to perdition.
The forces of anarchy which they have unleashed upon themselves and everyone else, will reverberate for generations to come.
