The Spectacular Unraveling of Donald Trump

The bully tactics that the surly nominee is implementing has been ineffective against Kamala Harris

Life hits you like a ton of bricks, sometimes.

And Donald Trump is learning this truth the hard way.

Going into the Republican National Convention, Agent Orange’s position was unassailable and it seemed as though Biden’s goose was cooked. But by the end of the proceedings, the incumbent at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue played an absolute blinder, which shook the political space to its core.

President Biden announced that he would not be seeking a second term and also took the opportunity to endorse his Vice-President as the nominee of the Democratic party.

And there began the extraordinary unravelling of the former American President.

Donald Trump's performance at the National Black Journalist conference was a sign of what was to come, when he tried — and failed — to gaslight the African-American audience.

The press conference which was called in the aftermath of the shifting of the Democrat tectonic plates, showed the full extent of the man’s mental state:

We have wars breaking out in the Middle East. We have the horrible war going on with Ukraine and Russia. All these things would have never happened if I was president. Would have never, ever happened, and they didn’t happen. Since Harris took office, car insurance is up 55%

As far as the personal attacks, I’m very angry at her because of what she’s done to the country. I’m very angry at her that she weaponized the justice system against me and other people — very angry at her, I think I’m entitled to personal attacks. I don’t have a lot of respect for her. I don’t have a lot of respect for her intelligence, and I think she’ll be a terrible president.”

We also shouldn’t forget what he said about the crowds which came to listen to Reverend Martin Luther King’s landmark speech:

If you look at Martin Luther King, when he did his speech, his great speech, and you look at ours, same real estate, same everything, same number of people. If not, we had more.”

Given the likelihood of future erratic pronouncements from the former President, the Republican bigwigs are rightly concerned about their chances going into the elections in November.

This isn’t 2016, when Trump’s anti-establishmentarianism was extremely attractive to vast numbers of independents; what we have seen over the course of the last few weeks is the unstoppable momentum of the African-American female candidate and the country being pro-democracy.

Trump is losing to a woman and a Black one at that. It's sent the felon into a tailspin. And this is precisely why we will be treated to a myriad of bizarre pronouncements, veering from jaw-dropping sexist comments to historical revisionism and good old fashion racism.

To those of us watching on the sidelines, Trump’s unravelling is an extraordinary sight to behold. We hope this leads to end of Donald's era and his hold over the Republican party.
